Why is Eid Al Adha celebrated?
History reveals that this sacred festival is celebrated in commemoration of Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God’s command. As Ibrahim was about to kill his son, Allah stopped him and provided a male goat to sacrifice instead.
Eid Al Adha celebration is to acknowledge and illustrate one’s devotion to Allah. A goat is sacrificed as a part of ritual and divided into three parts: one third of the share is given to the poor and needy, the other share is given to relatives, friends and neighbors and the remaining is retained by the family.
